What is Hoophall?

Hoophall is the premier high school basketball tournament in the country and each year it is hosted at the birthplace of basketball on the campus of Springfield College. The tournament features top-tier players and programs from across the country for a five-day, 40+ game event that attracts tons of viewers and media members.

What did we do?

In 2020, I led a team of six Communications/Sports Journalism majors who covered Hoophall with first-hand access to the players and coaches in attendance. Some of my responsibilities for this included coming up with unique, creative story ideas for us to cover, handling SEO creation and social media promotion for all of our stories, publishing the stories to the website, and making sure that all deadlines were met. We also live-tweeted every game and captured photos for each game. In total, we produced 25 written stories across the five days, as well as published a 24-page special print edition of our student newspaper. I handled the entirety of the layout for that paper. A full PDF of that paper can be found here. Check out some of the stories we did by clicking below and see the full collection here.
